Don't Worry Harper is No Reptilian Kitten Eater.

I forget who was tagged as the “reptilian kitten eater” a couple of elections ago but the CPC official website wants to reassure us it is NOT Stephen Harper. Check out the Charming all new softer side of Steve Harper.

Next we shall see a sepia toned picture of him shaking hands with his kids. Yes sir…the softer side of Steve is on the make over. Does he want an election now or what?

Now if he could only raise some sincere interest in stopping the torture of prisoners we Canadians have some responsibility towards and may keep our troops out of a war crimes court it would be nice.

And another thing, is Gordon O’Connor turning into Canada’s Rumsfeld and is Stockwell Day turning into Canada’s Dick Cheney - or is it just me?

It was Premier McGuinty. I, on the other hand, cannot shake from my brain the resemblence between McGuinty and Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame. That didn't get as much media play but it was much better image.

Thanks for promoting a great program in Ottawa that the Harpers are involved with! Harper is afterall very much a cat person.

Ken, please remember that the Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition has written that he supports the use of torture. I am sure Dion will have to answer Iggy's writings soon.

    Ken,

Yes, I think that this time, it is just you.

I saw a clip of Stockwell Day's speech yesterday on that issue. I'm no fan of his, but I thought he came across quite well trying to articulate the challenges in the region. It is true - sadly - that in some areas of the world, the concept of security-of-the-person and human rights are just that... concepts. Rome was built in a day, and neither will Afghanistan.

  4. Kuri - your observation is uncannily accurate on the Perkins similarities.

eric - please send the authority for your comment of the Deputy of the Official Opposition condoning torture.

Anon: I saw the Stockwell Day clip on the news too...it was a clip - what is the rest of the context...look at the Globe and Mail headlines for the past 3 days - especially today "What Ottawa (meaning the Harper Cons) doesn't want you to know." One edited TV news clip does not a statesman make!

Harper the Deceiver - the “report on human rights performance (meaning abuses) in other countries does not exist”...and then all of a sudden - voila here it is with the truth blackened out.

You missed the point on the kitten reference.

If it was indeed the “official CPC website” that would have been completely appropriate as that is clearly a partisan site. That’s not the case.

This is the official site of the Prime Minister of Canada. It is paid for by taxpayers, and exists to serve WHOEVER is the prime minister of the day.

It is intended to give Canadians access to the information that is OFFICIALLY released by the Prime Minister, and an insight into government policy.

The cat stuff “overtly politicises” the site.

  6. Anon @12:19 - OMIGOD! You are right. This kitten cuddling is on the the Prime Minister's Official site not the CPC Party site.

So I am ending up paying for this Conservative Party of Canada propaganda as a taxpayer. Now I am really pissed!

His article on the necessity of "lesser evils". This would have obviously come up if he had been elected as leader of the LPC: http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/news/opeds/2004/ignatieff_less_evils_nytm_050204.htm

I must say it is very well-written but, with most scholistic works, it is subject to taking quotes out of context.

  8. Are you being a little too generous to Day and O'Connor? They may be "hawks" but I'm not sure they have the guile, smarts and influence of Cheney and Rumsfeld.
